Well it is very hard to translate a loose drawing into finished piece without losing some of the spark. Plus in this instance you're looking at a rough drawings standing next to one pose of a turn around. In other words "The characters at their most boring point." We don't limit the characters to the model sheet. The over seas studios have strict instructions to follow the board pose, and or special character poses that we send for specific scenes.
This post gave me an idea: imagine a framed picture of the original sketch that your parents had in mind you would look like, then the actual you! It would be like the reverse of these! Clean ups, then the rough!
Development kills the cartoons in most cases. Read what I'm talking about. I use two sloppy examples of cartoons ( CLERKS and AQUA TEEN ) and then show the fantastic development sketches.
Lindenbaum, If it was the right time and the right project. Yes absolutely. Working at Spumco was a joy. It wasn't ever easy, but then good things don't usually come easily.
I have a question...ooo. Do animators,storyboard artists, etc get to meet the voice actors or actresses who voice the cartoon they are working for? If so, have you gotten to meet Ernest Borgnine when he voiced "Barnacle Boy"?
I meet them because on occasion I have been asked to step in and voice direct. But most of the board folks are too busy to run down and meet the voice people on the one day a week that they are in studio.
PS: Mr.B is the voice of Mermaid Man, and Tim Conway is Barnacle Boy.
Eew.....they look so weird! I'm glad that they changed the character's looks.....I mean, it's a funny show and all, but their faces and bodies would've disturbed me to the point of not watching it anymore.

That's really cool.
I bet the designs for "Purple & Brown" have gone through similar transformations.
