How We Met...or Not

This was a quicky to go with an interview for the Sponge Blog.
It could also be labeled how I learned to NOT body surf.

Has anyone ever said your drawings have a very Jack Davis-quality? And I mean that as a compliment, of course, as I'm not sure what your thoughts are on his work. Was he an influence?

Unfortunately I've not had the pleasure of becoming so intimately acquainted with the sea floor or its inhabitants. X)
That picture is great. As is the interview. Hahaa.
The "cut scene" from The Big One sounds hilarious, although it makes me wonder...is Squidward an octopus or squid?

I love your drawing style.

Thanks guys.
Oh, and officially Squidward is an Octopus.
So the calamari reference in the episode was misguided.

Vincent, who wrote the Fun song ? That the funniest thing about Sponge Bob ever.

Vincent Waller said...

RR do you remember which episode it was in?

Kenny P. said...

Seems like Sherm and/or Aaron did that episode.

I remember bodysurfing in the nude at night back in college. Good times. That's how I lost my genitals.

Vincent:

The episode was called "F.U.N."

Vincent Waller said...

I think Kenny is right about it being an Aaron or Sherm board. I'll check and get back to you.

I believe Squidward is a squid-octopus-human hybrid. That explains why he has only six tentacles, wears a shirt, and talks.

Your Q&A is great, it puts the others to shame!

Okay, Sherm was kind enough to fill the information gap in my head with facts. Yay! Sherm!

Hi Vincent...yep-- I wrote the words and the melody, and Brad Carow did the musical arrangement. The official credits read "Sherm Cohen/Brad Carow."

Steve Hillenburg helped me get started on the lyrics by suggesting, "do something like 'F is for Fun, U is for you and me'" -- I told the producer that Steve should share the writing credit, but Steve said he didn't want to be given credit.

I also got to play the ukulele part in the song ^_^ - It was originally just for the scratch track, but Brad left it in the mix (Thanks Brad).

Be sure and check Sherm's Blog at: http://cartoonsnap.blogspot.com/
