The Funeral Grimace
This is the face you feel like you're sporting during and around funerals. On the one hand, you are completely broken up about the person that is gone. But you are seeing people that you haven't connected with in years, and before you know it you find yourself standing there cracking jokes like everything is hunky-dory. What ever the hell that is.
Anyway this is a little drawing in homage to that implosively conflicted moment.
Cheers.

Old Doodles New Doodles
alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5007087353104215650" />
Old Yellow pad doodles.
The round headed character with the squinty eye, isMilo from the Oblongs. I was directing on the show.
Originaly Milo was supposed to only have one eye in the center of his head.
But the Execs grew frightened, and made us give him two eyes. Go figure, its alright for Prime Time charaters to be yellow with spikes on their head, or to have balls for a chin, but a one eyed boy.....too scary.
A man with an enourmous hand peeks out of a blind.

How my dog celebrates the holidays
In the dark of night, in the light of day, when my dog Rosie (A mini-aussie) feels a tiny bit tacitly starved, he spends a little quality time with his wee plush friend.
His choice of positioning in this activity is terribly human. Couple this with penchant for watching television, and I think I now understand how the charges for uh hmm...adult programing that I never saw, were ordered through The Dish network.

Phone Doodles 11-15-06
A little more of the potato wine guy. A detail of his shoe that wouldn't fit on the page. At least not at his ankles. The girl in the corner.Ehh, it's an example of the style, but no substance that JK mentions from time to time.
The happy amputee in the corner was kicked off from seeing some Russian pictures from the 1950's in a documentary I was watching on UTUBE.
This guy, angle and all, literally just fell out my pencil.

Expanded "The Rape Eye"
Some peoples Rape Eye is less malevolent.
For instance one friend, (Who shall remain nameless) when he sees a particularly beautiful women, looks more like he is stunned, aghast, or even disgusted. Like he can't believe what he is seeing. His head cocks up, ( hey cut it out, that laughing) mouth drops open, he crinkles up the flesh on his nose, and peers through the bottom of his glasses. For all intents and purposes looks like he is examining a grotesque bug. This is followed by a slight head bob down and head bob up every few seconds as if someone were lightly cracking him on the head with a rubber mallet. Then after he has soaked up all of the lovely lady's information, he goes straight into a full blown Tex Avery wolf take.

Caricature
John's and Marlo's caricatures got me so excited I had to try a bit myself. But as stated in an earlier post, I really have to turn my mind upside down to keep from doing the systematic crappy way that I was first trained to attack the subject.
This is a drawing of Derrick Drymen. I didn't have any US magazines laying around, so the celebrities are safe this week.

Best Day Ever!
Hey They actually used the image. I'm happily stunned.
This was a piece done for the Marketing of an episode called "Best Day Ever".
Don't be confused when you see the episode. There is no submarine/bicycle in the episode.
I drew the rough sketch. Robert Ryan Cory did the masterful clean-up and filled in the interior of the submarine where I had left a couple nebulous pencil scratches.
It was Teal Wang that did the color, Peter Bennett applied some shading..

Doodles and "The Rape Eye"
This is a phone doodle/warm-up drawing. The last couple of months have been so busy, that I've barely had time to draw. I mean beyond work drawing. Correcting the perspective on Prop designs, adjusting lines of action and acting in storyboard drawings isn't nearly as much fun as doing the drawings from start to finish.
This fellow runs the operations at The Giant Hand Carwash . He has a look that says "Draw me!" A bold look that I guess works for him. I keep expecting to see him in a movie, doing a drug deal or something of that ilk. The girl in the hat and glasses is from the same location waiting for here car to be finished.
My ability to draw women is woefully in adequate,. But even a poor drawing of a pretty girl will usually get their attention. (Just a side note for the single shy cartoonists out there. Draw, Draw, Draw them close to you......Okay that sounds creepy, but it really does help. Smile when they look at you and your rendering of them. Then take the next step and start talking to them. All the while keep smiling. I had a friend that used to ask me why it was, that when a woman caught me looking at her ass, they would smile and give me a happy " I caught you with your hand in the cookie jar." eyes, but when he was busted in the same activity they'd give him the I hate you eyes. The answer was simple. When he would look at them, without being aware of it, he would slip into his serious SEX face. We've all got a serious sex face, but a women shouldn't see your serious sex face until you're having serious sex with her. Then it's an appropriate and welcome intensity. If you have that look on your face the first time she lays eyes on you, that same intense stare that later she might love will be interpreted as only one thing. "The Rape Eye." So put a smile on your face, and she will most likely smile back.)
Listen to him ramble on. What a schmo.
More phone doodles. I don't care for most of these. But I like the little guy in the corner with the Stamp in his hand. I like a drawings that make me want to draw more, either to forward a storyline that the drawing conjured for me, or to lean in a direction of a particular mood.
The drawing of the girl on the bottom left side was me trying to remember my girlfriends features the day after I meet her.
I failed miserably at capturing her likeness. It got all clunky and formulaic. This is one of the dangers if your first art job/training was at an amusement park drawing caricatures of the hideous, draw the right eye, draw the bridge of the nose, draw the left eye formula . It's a ruinous way to learn.
I did warn you that this would be a place of incoherent thoughts right? Well since as Uncle Eddies has stated "They haven't invented a decent fake muscle shirt." I am off to the gym.
Have a great Saturday.
Go now! Get out amongst 'em and draw.

It's Another Day of Doodles Folks
Or Doo-dles as the case may be. These are the little drawings on post-its (Thank the high heavens for Post-its!) that are done in meetings while talking about very important things. They are the cartoonist pressure valve. In most studios you can find these and similar renderings stuck discreetly the back sides of doors.
I believe I know who penned the first two below, but I should check before crediting them.
Ahhhhhh, look at the joy in those eyes.
This one is mine. It is a small example of the people that have rolled, bumped , and skittered around in my head for as long as I can remember.

Happy Halloween
Halloween, the cartoonists favorite holiday.
This year I thought I'd keep it simple and girl friendly by not covering myself in red paint and horns. Though I should point out that when you're dressed as Satan in a Peeler bar all the ladies seem to have a need to dance on the horned one's lap. YMMV
I hope you all had as much fun this weekend as I did.
Thanks for stopping by.
Elvis has left the building.
Oh it got even more shameful. Lucky for me Pocahontas kinda liked it.

Incoherent Thoughts
The beginning of many ramblings, that are guaranteed to not only rot your eyes, but to turn your brain to mush from boredom.
